The Grief of Becoming Someone New

One of the most surprising parts of healing is grief.

Not grief for what happened.

Grief for who you had to become.

And grief for who you’re no longer becoming.

Nobody talks much about the sadness that can accompany growth.

We celebrate healing.

Transformation.

Recovery.

But change often requires loss.

Maybe you’re no longer the people-pleaser.

The fixer.

The rescuer.

The person who says yes to everything.

The person who tolerates behavior you shouldn’t.

That’s good

Healthy, even.

But it can still feel strange.

Sometimes healing means outgrowing old roles.

Old patterns.

Sometimes, even old relationships.

And that can be painful.

Even when it’s what’s best for you.

Healing isn’t just gaining something new.

Sometimes it’s mourning what no longer fits.

What is something you’ve outgrown that you’re actually grateful to leave behind?
